Many times in the Bible we see where evil rulers desired a certain land, position, or some sort of personal gain. And to their own demise they would conspire to steal, kill, and destroy people or nations to fulfill their evil desires. ALWAYS to their own defeat and demise.
I began to read the story of Athaliah, the daughter of Ahab. How she slew all the royal heirs so that she could reign. And she did reign for a period of time. But there was one young heir that was hidden from her slaughter with his nurse, named Joash.
When the time came the people anointed the young boy as king. To restore the throne back to God's people. He was only 7 years old! When Athaliah heard of the inauguration she tore her clothes and yelled, "treason, treason"....go figure! The evil daughter of evil Jezebel and evil Ahab, who killed children just so she could reign yelled treason because her evil plot didn't go as planned lol
Girl bye! Lol
Anywho... Back to the young King Joash. He actually started out pretty good. He even charged the people to rebuild the house of God that evil Athaliah broke down to worship baalim and her false gods. But his flesh too did rise. When the priest Jehoida passed. He forgot who he was and began to worship false Gods with the princes of Judah. Of course the Lord in His mercy tried to send prophets their way to turn them back to God. But they didn't listen. Then the Spirit of the Lord fell on Zechariah, the son of Jehoida, the late priest's son and said, "Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath also forsaken you." Afterwards they CONSPIRED against him to to stone him and kill him... In the house of the Lord!
Mind you in chapter 23, the priest said not to kill in the house of the Lord. That's why Athaliah was killed outside the courts at the horse gate. But back to the 24th chapter! I'll put it word for word so there's no mistake or subtraction from the truth:
22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it."
23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus
24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the Lord delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
I hope we can see how evil doers and conspirators NEVER escape the judgement of GOD ALMIGHTY.
There will always be recompense and reward for your actions, whether good or bad!
And of an infallible truth, you reap what you sow.
